Objectives:
1.Learn how to log in
2.Set up the FPAdmin user account.
Getting Started
There should be a FocalPoint icon on your PC's desktop that looks like this:
Double-click on this icon. Once FocalPoint opens you will be presented with a login screen that looks like this:
The first person to log in to FocalPoint is installed should be your security administrator, company owner, manager, or whoever is responsible for assigning security levels to other FocalPoint users. If you do not use security features in FocalPoint, an owner or manager should still be the first to log in as “FPAdmin” to set a password for this new FocalPoint user that will be used for Administrative tasks in the future.
1.Log into FocalPoint with a user name of FPAdmin and a password of focalpoint
2.You will be immediately prompted to change your password for the user FPAdmin
3.You will then be prompted to enter a new password. Enter this password twice. The password must be 4 characters long without integrated credit card processing. If you do have integrated credit card processing, the password must be 7 characters long with a mixture of alpha and numeric characters.
What's with the TAB key?
If you are used to using software that was not in a Windows environment, then the "Enter" key was probably a good friend of yours. In a Windows environment, the TAB key is commonly used to go from one field to next. The "Enter" key is used to make a selection, similar to single or double clicking with a mouse. You can still be friends with your "Enter" key, but expanding your circle of friends to include the "Tab" key will help you move around FocalPoint forms (and forms in most other software developed for Windows, and most forms you find on websites) more efficiently. You can always use your mouse to get to another field as well.
Who decides what field I should go to once I press my new friend (the TAB key)?
In short, the programmer. That being said, if you ever run into a screen where you are tabbing through fields and it's just not going in any logical order, let us know.
Let's move on. You've logged in and now you should be looking at the Main Menu. It looks like this:
To go to an area listed on the menu, you can:
•Click on a menu item using your mouse.
•Use your up and down arrows to make a menu item yellow and press "Enter".
•Simply enter the letter or number associated with the menu item.
Doing any of these will take you to a different menu or perhaps directly to a screen. If you are directed to another menu, the top item will always take you back one menu. Most areas are no more than two menus "deep". Also, if you press the "Escape" key (labeled Esc on your keyboard, typically the upper-left-most key), you will go back one menu. If you press the escape key 3 or 4 times really fast, you will no doubt end up back at the main menu.
Throughout the remaining sections of this training you will see a sentence at the top of the screen that says something like:
C-7 from the Main Menu
This particular sentence is from the "Security Setups" section. This means that if you start at the Main Menu and press "C", then press "7", you'll end up at the screen that you're about to learn to set up.
Finally, there are four items at the bottom of the main menu that deserve further explanation.
X - press the X key or click on the X with your mouse to exit out of FocalPoint.
L - press the L key or click on the L with your mouse to get back to the login screen.
T - press the T key or click on the T with your mouse to log in or log out of the Time Clock (which is covered in operations training)
M - press the M key or click on the M with your mouse to see the message of the day (which is covered later in setup training)
No matter what menu you're on, you will always have access to these four items.
Let's move on to the user file whenever you're ready. If you are going through the Training Regimen in order, it might be easiest to click on the green "next arrow" in the upper right hand corner of your screen:
